ヤマトシジミの訪花選択性を野外観察で調べた。ヤマトシジミは全部で18科36種の花を訪れたが,カタバミやタンポポなどの黄色の花が咲く背の低い植物を吸蜜植物として好んで利用していた。同じ黄色の花でも,ハルノノゲシのように背の高い植物は好まれていなかった。シロツメクサやヒメジョオンなどの白色の花へもしばしば訪れたが,これは花の数が多かったためで,ヤマトシジミに好まれていたわけではなかった。赤色や青色の花はほとんど利用されなかった。花の大きさは蜜の量との関係で,訪花選択性よりもその花への滞在時間に影響すると思われた。

Selective floral-visit by the pale grass blue was examined at several localities in Osaka City from July to October, 1985. The butterfly was observed to visit 36 different species of nector plants. Among them,it preferred the short plant with yellowish flower such as the creeping lady's-sorrel and dandelion. It stayed longer time on the dandelion than on the creeping lady's-sorrel, which may be due to the difference in size of flower. Whitish flowers such as white clover and white-top were also visited when they were abundant. Reddish and bluish flowers were rarely visited by butterfly.
