Abstract

There are three streams processing visual information in man: 1) ventral stream, which directed to the temporal lobe for processing shape and color of the object to retrieve the knowledge (semantic memory) of them; 2) ventro-dorsal stream, which directed to the inferior parietal lobule for processing object location and movement to form conscious representation of objects; 3) dorso-dorsal stream, which directed to the intraparietal sulcus and the superior parietal lobule for processing location movement and special shape of the object to control actions toward the object unconsciously. In the ventral and ventro-dorsal streams, confluence with other types of sensory informations occurs only after visual processing is completed. The processing results of each stage are utilized for various actions. On the other hand, in the dorso-dorsal stream, non-visual sensory information gathers at an early stage in a localized area of the brain for each specific action. The above was explained, showing the symptoms caused by damage to each stream.
