Abstract

We report on ultrahigh frequency electric field detection technique by the Stark effect in electro-optic (EO) polymers. In the terahertz wave detection technique by the Stark effect of EO polymers, a gapless and wideband terahertz wave detection is possible using a simple optical measurement system. Since it is important to clarify the relationship between the direction of the electric field applied to the EO polymer and the direction of the Stark shift for various applications such as ultrahigh speed electric field detection, we clarify the relationship from density functional theory calculations of EO chromophores and the experimental data.
