Abstract

The purpose of this study was to review the current standard of children’s homes in Peru and to consider the challenges in the Self-reliance Support. By scoping review, 73 studies were yielded, and we summarized the theme. The main themes were “Understanding the psychosocial characteristics of children residing in institutions,” “Functions and roles of supporters inside and outside institutions,” “Support for children after leaving institutions,” “Family support and community approach,” “Use of social resources,” “Architecture and design of institutions,” and “Understanding the awareness and actual conditions of institutional staff”. It was also found that the frontline facility staff are involved in various ways with a view toward Self-reliance Support for the children. However, it was examined that the challenges in Self-reliance Support in Peru mainly include difficulties in effectively using vocational training programs and state scholarships and maintaining users’ motivation, lack of information on the actual conditions of those who have left the institutions, and lack of support after leaving the institutions.
