Abstract

In the Ono River basin in Kyushu Island, terraces and waterfalls have developed due to fluvial erosion after the deposition of the Aso-4 pyroclastic flow. This presentation will discuss the fuvial terrace deposits distributed within 2 km downstream from the Chinda (Odaki) waterfall. The surface layer of the terrace deposits consisted of black volcanic ash soil, with a clay layer of fluvial deposits underneath. Both contained volcanic glasses of bubble wall type, but no tephra layers were observed. The absence of the Kikai-Akahoya tephra layer suggests that the terraces were formed after the deposition of that tephra.
