Radially and Azimuthally Polarized Vortex Beam Converters Based on Metasurfaces

Radially polarized beams and azimuthally polarized beams are common cylindrical vector beams that play important roles in guiding and capturing particles, accelerating particles, improving microscope resolution, metal cutting, and improving storage density. Vortex beams are widely used in optical communication, laser detection, photography, optical capture, beam shaping, and other fields. In order to simplify the optical system used for generating radially/azimuthally polarized vortex beams and simplify optical calibration, a polarization converter based on a quarter-wave plate of metasurface is proposed. Numerical studies have shown that the polarization converter can convert circularly polarized light into radially polarized vortex beams and azimuthally polarized vortex beams, respectively. This quarter-wave plate provides a flexible method for designing more complex vector light fields.
