Abstract

<p> In recent years, Steels for Bridge High-performance Structure (SBHS) has been standardized in Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). Compared with conventional steels and SBHS500, there is a lack of information on SBHS400, which was specified in JIS the latest among three types of SBHS and SBHS700, which has not been specified in Japanese Design Specifications for Highway Bridges yet. In this study, the mechanical properties of SBHS400 and SBHS700 were collected and compared with those of conventional steels and SBHS500. Then, the axial compression behavior of simply supported plates made of SBHS400 and SBHS700 was examined in detail. Axial compression tests with six stub-column specimens and analytical investigations clarified the effects of stress-strain curves of steel materials and residual stress distributions on axial force-axial displacement relationships. Parametric analyses complemented the experimental results and formulas which can evaluate the load-carrying capacity of uniaxially compressed simply supported plates made of SBHS400 or SBHS700 were proposed.</p>
