Abstract

<p> The No. 1 channel of Numakawa-Daini floodway was completely closed by the action of long period waves during Typhoon No. 1 which hit the area on 15 April 2022. In this study, the removal of sand deposited in the conduit of No. 1 channel by flushing was investigated by field tests. On 24 January 2023, the sand filled inside the conduit was artificially excavated for approximately 30 m length from the exit of No. 1 channel. After the water level of the reservoir upstream of the conduit was raised up to +4.41 m above mean sea level, flushing was carried out. As a result, the flow inside the conduit was established. At the same time, an UAV survey and the changes in water level inside the reservoir and at the exit of the conduit were measured to investigate the effect of the flushing.</p>
