The primary objective of the present study was to determine the actual awareness and behavior of university students regarding the SDGs in order to elucidate what bottlenecks exist in education for sustainable development from the perspective of the recipients of education. Using eco-awareness and eco-behavior as indicators of educational outcomes, we investigated the effects of university students’ enrollment in environment related courses and relational mobility on eco-awareness and eco-behavior. The results indicated that recognition of the SDGs was high among university students. There were three groups of university students in terms of SDGs/environmental awareness: a high group, a low group, and an in-between group that recognized the importance of the SDGs but had a low sense of responsibility and a low awareness of the benefits of environmentally conscious behavior. The results showed that while students’ attendance at environment-related courses was related to their SDGs/environmental awareness, high SDG/environmental awareness does not necessarily lead to environmentally conscious behavior.
