We investigated the effect of the expression of nonverbal information through changes in facial expression on the conversational agent's impression of intelligence while the agent is listening to the interlocutor. First, a mock interview experiment was conducted with a professional interviewer, and the characteristic gesture of averting one's gaze during turn-taking was extracted. Then, we implemented gaze aversion to a virtual agent and conducted an experiment to evaluate the impression of the agent. The results showed that gaze aversion significantly increased the agent's evaluation that it is a good listener and that it understands the conversation and speaks up.
