Abstract

Hidden obesity is said to be a risk for sarcopenic obesity, and accurate measurements of hidden obesity and attempts to analyze its health risks are needed. In this study we sought a method to determine hidden obesity from BMI and body fat percentage with the aim of analyzing the health risk of people with hidden obesity using that method. Subjects were divided into three body type groups (standard, hidden obese, obese) based on BMI and body fat percentage. One-way analysis of variance was then used to compare physical, physiological, and physical fitness elements in the three groups. The physiological elements in the hidden obese group tended to be the same as those in the standard group. Among strength elements, the grip strength in the hidden obese group was the lowest among the three groups, while all other measurements tended to be significantly inferior second to the obese group. The above raises an alarm for the physical risk of hidden obesity.
