Abstract

<p>　It has been pointed out in previous studies that the production system of the semiconductor industry is more standardized than other industries. In those studies, there has been an analysis of the standardization activities of SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International), the global industry association representing the semiconductor-related companies, but the main discussion was on hardware standardization such as machinery and equipment. As for software standardization, it has not been clarified in detail as of yet. Under these circumstances, important information of the early days in the semiconductor industry has been obtained from a key person of SEMI, who has historical background of semiconductor plant’s standardization activities such as communication protocol in the software field. This paper puts such information in order and clarifies the past situation, from the viewpoint of standardization of system coordination in factories.</p>
