Abstract

Both field survey and laboratory analysis were conducted in the eastern part of Kurahashi Island, aiming to clarify the effects of joints on the formation of valleys in the granite distribution area. The results of the investigations showed that valley between 500 m and 2 km in length tends to form in the direction that bisects the bisecting granite joints, rather than along the joint surface as initially assumed.
