Abstract
[Purpose] The nursing multifunctional in-home long-term service, called Kantaki in Japanese, has diverse functions. It combines short-stay and day-care services with home health services to meet the needs, including medical ones, of different clients. Therefore, it is thought that different competencies from that of existing traditional nursing facilities are required. This study aimed to examine the quantitative validity of the competencies, identified in previous studies, of nurses who worked in Kantaki. [Methods] A self-administered questionnaire was provided to nurses who worked in all Kantaki providers in September 2020. The questions examined the importance of competencies (8 categories and 48 subcategories) for nurses who worked in Kantaki. Descriptive statistics were used. [Results] The survey was distributed to 498 nurses, and 217 responded (response rate of 36.5%). Of the 48 subcategories, more than 90% of the respondents answered "very important" or "important" for almost all items, with a mean score of 3.4 or higher out of 4 points, indicating that the items were important. The average score for several items was 3.8 or higher, and they were in the categories of "identified care receiver's and their family's strengths and encouraged them to utilize them in daily life," "provided care flexibly to meet an individual's needs," "enhanced their life until the end," and "created a team in the community to support the person." [Conclusion] Quantitative content validity was confirmed for the competencies of the nurses in Kantaki. It was confirmed that nurses play a core role in supporting caregivers as the family and community surrounding the caregivers has become more diverse in Japan.
