Abstract

We report three cases of conjunctival and one case of cutaneous melanoma treated at our department, all of which involved the eyelid conjunctiva. We reviewed the cases based on current classifications and treatment strategies. All patients were female, and their mean age was 67.5 years. Surgery was performed in all four cases. In three cases, orbital exenteration was performed and in one case, full-thickness upper eyelid resection was performed with a 5-mm margin, followed by reconstruction. The duration of the follow-up period ranged from 2 years and 2 months to 26 years. Three patients survived without recurrence; however, one patient died of the original disease. Due to advances in adjuvant therapy for conjunctival malignant melanoma, the extent of resection has decreased in the last three decades. As eyeball-sparing surgery becomes more common, conjunctival melanoma of the eyelids is more likely to be treated with plastic surgery.
