Abstract

If air bubbles are mixed in the hydraulic oil for hydraulic power transmission systems, the equivalent bulk modulus of the oil changes significantly, and the dynamic characteristics of the system deteriorates. In this study, we experimentally measured the volume change rate and pressure change of the hydraulic oil by repeatedly compressing and decompressing hydraulic oil with entrained air bubbles in a pressure vessel. We also visualized the behavior of bubbles in the vessel. Air bubbles in the oil dissolved by compression, and the relationship between the measured volume change rate and pressure change showed different behavior depending on the compression time and working pressure. From these experimental results, we discussed effects of air bubbles in the oil on the bulk modulus of the hydraulic oil. In addition, we examined ways to modify the mathematical model for bulk modulus of hydraulic oil containing air bubbles.
