Abstract

The developments related to Abe Tomoji’s three-month dispatch to Shanghai and his participation in the preceding Second Greater East Asia Writers Congress are two long-unresolved issues. To resolve these issues, this study attempts to fill in the gaps in the literature by examining new materials, including not only Tairiku Shinpo and Shen Bao but also Xin Shen Bao, Zhejiang Ribao, Guangdong Ribao, the magazines Nu Sheng and Liang Yi, and the weekly journal Zhong Da Zhou Kan of the National Central University of Nanjing.
