Abstract

Complaints by millipedes (Diplopoda) in Toyama Prefecture from 1973 to 2013 were reported based on the evidence of identification service and consultation by the Toyama Institute of Health. The total number of complaints due to millipedes was 51. The complaints were basically due to nuisance, including 11 cases of indoor invasion. Peaks in complaints caused by millipedes were observed in May–July and October–November. Complaints by millipedes in Toyama Prefecture were attributed to the following three species: Japanioiulus lobatus (Julida: Julidae), Oxidus gracilis (Polydesmida: Paradoxosomatidae), and Parafontaria falcifera (Polydesmida: Xystodesmidae). The outbreak of P. falcifera was firstly recorded.
