Abstract

This study examines career support in a recurrent education program with employment support at A University. By identifying the characteristic elements of recurrent education with employment support, effective system creation, and support methods, we will obtain suggestions that contribute to future employment support and recurrent education, as well as improve the quality of career supporters. Our case study is the employment support program (implemented from October 2021 to January 2022) sponsored by A University, which is commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2020, and comprises group training and individual support. A three structured interview was conducted for six career supporters who were in charge of individual support—before, during, and after the program implementation. The interviews’ results after the program’s implementation (conducted in February 2022) were analyzed using the KJ method (Kawakita, 1967). About 98items that were related to career support in recurrent education with employment support were extracted and organized into 34 minor categories, 9 middle categories, and 4 major categories. The main categories are “I.Characteristic elements of this program (3 minor categories)”; “II. System building and collaboration (6 minor categories/2 middle categories)”; “III. Support in general (15 minor categories/5 major classifications) ”; and “IV. Employment support (10 minor categories, 2 major categories).” Based on the classification results, a spatial layout map was created for career support in recurrent education with employment support.
