Abstract

text

In the Course of Study, singing instruction within the high school art course titled "Music I" emphasized cultivating qualities such as "the ability to think, make judgments, and express oneself." The goal is to foster "creative singing expressions based on one's own image while acquiring and utilizing knowledge and skills related to singing." However, it has been observed that in actual classes, students' inventive expression often remains confined to the mere accurate reproduction of terms and symbols written in musical scores, not truly fostering the desired " the ability to think, make judgments, and express oneself." To address this, I conducted a trial class where the nuances of music were understood through physical expression by "conducting." I clarified the expressive intentions behind singing and analyzed students' response to ascertain whether students’ understanding and perception of the musical were qualitatively enhanced through the innovative use of conducting expressions, and whether the depth of students’ singing expression was intensified through activities that channeled music through conducting. I then examined the relationship between conducting expression and innovative singing expression.
