Description
This study explores the collaborative process and outcomes of “Shared Living Space,” a virtual exchange project between Japanese and US university students, focusing on intercultural communication and collaborative art creation. The focal point of this paper is the research analysis and discussion of the participants' experiences and the effectiveness of the project setting. Coding analysis of the communicative process and learner reflections indicate that participants were generally satisfied with the final design of their group work, highlighting the potential of online spaces to foster shared experiences and memories that transcended cultural boundaries. The findings also reveal different group dynamics and strategies for fostering creativity, showcasing the importance of open communication and inclusive participation. The data suggest that such collaborative efforts not only enhance the skills and understanding of collaborative art creation but also facilitate meaningful intercultural communication, encouraging participants to navigate and negotiate differences constructively. This experience serves as a valuable insight for refining future intercultural collaborative projects.
