Abstract

<p>The Economic Census is pivotal in analyzing regional industries and providing comprehensive universe data. However, concerns arise about underreporting due to evolving internet dynamics and declining survey response rates. This study, focusing on Chiba City, creates a meticulously compiled dataset using legally binding procedure data to scrutinize the extent and biases of underreporting in Economic Census data. Results reveal approximately 40% underreporting compared to the reference dataset. Discrepancies vary across districts, emphasizing the need for detailed analyses. Despite the limitations, the Economic Census remains crucial, urging further cross-sectoral and regional investigations for effective utilization in regional analyses and policy considerations.</p>
