Abstract

<p>This study aims to 1) reveal the actual situation of coin parking in downtown Kumamoto and 2) develop a simulation model for designing the optimal location and capacity allocation of the parking lots. The result revealed that the current parking lots were scattered across the t arget area, and the capacity was concentrated in a specific area. The simulation results indicate that increasing parking capacity and reducing parking charges in the fringe area may better manage parking demand.</p>
