Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of the narratives of the parentʼs and childrenʼs generations regarding their experiences with straw song and their images of their experiences with the effects of that. An open-ended survey and semi-structured interviews were conducted with five college students and five women with experience raising children. The questions asked them to recall their experiences of singing straw song. From the qualitative data obtained, narratives about straw songs were extracted and analyzed using text mining. The results showed that tickling songs were related to the experience image of “physical contact and sharing fun” and lullaby songs were related to the experience image of “comforting mother singing”. Moreover, the “pain pain go away” spell song was associated with the experiential images of “distraction and pain relief ”. This study proposed a exploratory process model for the experience of straw songs based on an analysis of the narratives of the parentʼs and childrenʼs generations. For the childrenʼs generation, the experience of straw songs was an opportunity to form the psychological bond of attachment. For the parental generation, the straw songs experience was an opportunity to show the infant the presence and affection of the mother as a holding environment.
