Abstract

Unlike conventional organic synthesis, mechanochemical organic synthesis uses a grinding machine such as a ball mill as a reaction vessel. This method has the advantages of greatly reducing the reaction solvent, increasing the reaction rate, simplifying the operation, and enabling reactions of poorly soluble compounds. In the past five years, we have demonstrated the usefulness of mechanochemical organic synthesis by developing palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, reactions of poorly soluble chemicals, synthesis of organometallic compounds such as Grignard reagents, fast Birch reduction, and mechanoredox reactions using piezoelectric materials. The results showed the usefulness of mechanochemical organic synthesis.
