Description

It is required for chiroptical materials bearing circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) to have intended emission wavelengths, high quantum yields (QY), and high luminescence dissymmetry factors (glum). In this study, we aimed to generate red-green-blue (RGB) and white CPLs by adding three types of fluorene-based luminescent molecules and their mixture into nematic liquid crystal (N*-LCs). The fluorene derivatives dissolved in the N*-LCs exhibited induced CPLs of RGB and white colors with QY of 60~90% and glum values of 0.6~1.0. In addition, the changes in CPL properties were evaluated using different host liquid crystal systems. It is found that the host nematic liquid crystal (N-LC) containing 5CT is favorable for inducing CPL with higher glum.
