Abstract

The effect of the dissolution reaction on the penetration height of silicate slag into magnesia tube was discussed. Slag penetration experiments in Magnesia tube as capillary were conducted at 1500℃ using silicate slags with different MgO contents. The slug penetration behavior in magnesia tube was analyzed on the basis of the time-dependency of the penetration height. The following conclusions were drawn from the present study. 1) The penetration height of slag into tube falls down after the dipping time of 20s because the dissolution of MgO of Magnesia tube into slag causes the enlargement of the inner diameter of tube and the increase in the interfacial tension between magnesia inner tube wall and slag. 2) The more amounts of the dissolution of MgO from magnesia tube into slag causes the lower interfacial tension between magnesia inner tube wall and slag, resulting in the greater wettability of magnesia tube by slag even after the penetration height of slag reached the maximum value.
