A variety of copolymers comprised of poly[2-(perfluorobutyl)ethyl methacrylate] (PC_4F_9MA) and poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate) (PCHMA) was synthesized and applied for the surface characterization by an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and the contact angle measurements with water and n-dodecane droplets. As expected, these fluorine-containing copolymers always showed the hydrophobic property due to the concentration of C_4F_9 groups at the top of the film surface. Interestingly, the microphase separation of PC_4F_9MA segments at the film surface leads the block copolymer surface structure to the same as the PC_4F_9MA homopolymer. In addition, the random copolymer film showed excellent water/oil repellency, in which the pining effects of C_4F_9 groups reduced.
