オノマトペ「バキバキ」「バッキバキ」の多義分析とその用法

In this paper, based on the polymesy of the onomatopoeias “Baki-baki/ Bakki-baki”, I first extracted the meanings of four old usages and four new usages from various example sentences, and identified their prototypical senses. Then, I analyzed the interrelationships of the eight meanings and illustrated their ambiguous structure. The eight meanings are listed below. Old usage A：〈The sound of a hard object breaking or the state in which a hard object is broken〉【prototypical senses】 Old usage B：〈The sound made by something vibrating or creaking〉 Old usage C：〈The state in which a certain part of the body is stiff〉 Old usage D：〈The state in which things are put forward smoothly〉 New usage E：〈The abdominal muscles strongly built up〉〈Strong body〉 New usage F：〈Messed up〉〈Severely〉〈Horribly〉 New usage G：〈Excessively clear or bloodshot eyes〉 New usage H：〈Genuine〉〈Authentic〉〈True〉〈Classic〉〈Typical〉 Next, I pointed out that there is a transformation from a negative meaning to a positive meaning between the new usage F and the new usage H. In explaining this, I used the antagonism asserted by Voßhagen (1999), which Sakaguchi (2013) discussed in his paper on the semantic expansion and the intensifier use of “yabai”. Furthermore, as a result of investigating the number and the usage rate of “Baki-baki/Bakki-baki”, one point have become clear: there is a gap between the intuitive prototypical senses and the actual usage frequency. In the future, I would like to conduct polysemous analyses of onomatopoeias, which have come to be used in recent years, and try to find commonalities and differences with the ambiguous structure of “Baki-baki/Bakki-baki”.
