Description
Objective: The purpose of this study was to clarify the hopes and reasons for not being able to discharge of long-term hospitalized patients in a psychiatric ward for discharge. Methods: A semi-structured interview survey was conducted with four communicable patients who had been hospitalized in a chronic psychiatric ward more than one year. Results:As a result, 30 subcategories and 9 categories were generated from 174 summaries. The seven generated categories were [Positive evaluation of nurse involvement], [Situation where you can't consult us nurses], [Maintaining motivation for discharge], [Patients want to interact with their families, work, and hobbies after discharge], [Need for continuation of psychiatric treatment], [Difficulty in discharge due to personal relationships], [Difficulty in discharge due to economic conditions], [Difficulty in discharge due to physical symptoms], [Continuation of hospitalization while worrying about discharge]. Conclusions: The study revealed that the patients expressed their hopes for discharge from the hospital for family relationship, employment, and hobbies. On the other hand, patients cited continued psychiatric treatment, financial concerns, and concerns about physical symptoms as reasons for not being able to discharge.
