<p>Abstract : This study aimed to clarify the will to evoke ethical behavior in operating room nurses. Ten certified nurses were interviewed ; the interviews were qualitatively and inductively analyzed. Five categories were extracted as a result of analysis : “Awareness as an advocate,” “Strong feelings for the patient,” “Demand for better care,” “Awareness as profession,” and “Influence on the team”. These categories were then integrated into three core categories : “Patient-centered considerations,” “Do what should be done,” and “Cooperate with personnel”. The relationship between the core categories was make patient-centered considerations, do what should be done, and cooperate with surrounding personnel. However, the nurses did not have a process in place for these core categories ; the categories existed concurrently. The participants in this study reported having will, which enables them to exhibit ethical behavior despite the special environment of the operating room. The results of this study demonstrated the way of being of the nursing profession that fulfills its mission as a patient advocate within the medical organization. Moreover, the results of this study suggest that operating room nurses serve as the foundation for promoting ethical behavior.</p>
