Description

Changes in the chemical state of formic acid on the Cu(977) and Pd/Cu(977) surfaces during the heating process were observed by high-resolution XPS using synchrotron radiation. From the comparison with the previous studies, it was found that the Cu(977) surface has a higher dissociation activity of formic acid than the Cu(997) surface, and the (100) step facet of Cu(977) is important for the dissociation of formic acid. It was also suggested that a new formic acid decomposition pathway may be expressed on the Pd/Cu(977) surface.
