Abstract

The single molecular junction(SMJ) has wide attention due to potential application tomolecular devices. To evaluate the performance of the devices, their temperature isalso important; however, the thermometry for the SMJs has not been established. Inthis research, we aimed to measure the temperature of 1’4-benzendithiol (BDT) SMJby surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) measurement. We fabricated BDT-SMJ and observed SERS spectra of the BDT molecule. We estimated the temperatureof the BDT-SMJ from the intensities of stokes and anti-stokes scattering of the ringbreathing mode. To elucidate the response to the heating effect by laser irradiation,we examined the laser power dependence of the temperature. As a result, wesucceed to detect the elevated temperature of the BDT SMJ by laser irradiation.
