Abstract

We developed a pre-processing equipment for a video codec with functions of low-pass filtering and noise reduction to reduce image degradation for video coding for future 8K terrestrial broadcasting. These functions are realized on hardware by using a method based on the wavelet shrinkage technique. In addition, parameters of these functions are selected by calculated encoding difficulty from an input 8K video frame. We confirmed that image degradation is reduced for real-time 8K encoded video by using the pre-processing equipment.
