<p>The purpose of this study is to make roles of whaling clear in the Faroe Islands. In the Faroe Islands pilot whale driving has been carried out continuously as self-sufficing whaling. Some traits of the whaling in the Faroe Islands are, 1)administered by the nation, 2)passive based on undecided arrivals of whales, 3)performed by traditional gears and skills, 4)distributed equally among the islanders.</p><p>As to the amounts of the distribution, that is dominated a size of schools and populations. When a school is big enough, a distribution to the residents carry out, and when it is not big enough, government gives whales to the weak.</p><p>Whaling in the Faroe Islands is playing roles to place the islanders into the nation, the nature, and tradition.</p>
