Abstract

The purpose of this study is to estimate the effect of creating adjacent seaweed bed substratum to study the species and amount of seaweed on the artificial seaweed bed substratum with different creation periods.

After the creation, the amount of seaweed on the artificial seaweed bed substratum of the 1st, 3rd and 4th increased with seasonal changes up to 40 months, 19 months, and 16 months, respectively. The Simpson index of the 4th artificial seaweed bed substratum was 0.37 to 0.74, which was more significant than the 1st and 3rd artificial seaweed bed substratum shortly after creation. Sφrensen-Dice coefficient of the seaweeds that grew on the surrounding natural seaweed beds exceeded 0.70 in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th artificial seaweed bed substratum at 73, 38, and 22 months, respectively. The period for approaching the seaweed species in the surrounding natural seaweed beds became shorter each time a seaweed bed growth base is created adjacent to each other.

The 1st artificial seaweed bed substratum had a larger amount of attached macrobenthic biomass than the surrounding natural seaweed beds in 40 months. However, the 3rd and 4th artificial seaweed bed substratum were almost the same as the surrounding natural seaweed beds.

The relationship between the creation area of artificial seaweed bed substratum and the fish density could not be confirmed because the fish density in the 3rd and 4th artificial seaweed bed substratum were almost the same and/or less than that in the 1st artificial seaweed bed substratum.
