Description
A new technique for strengthening of commercial magnesium alloys has been developed. The fabricated round bars with diameters of 20 mmf and 49 mmf possess excellent mechanical properties of tensile and yield strengths of 450 MPa and 400 MPa, and 5% ductility, which are superior to those of the rare-earth (RE)added magnesium alloys. Because REs are not necessary, low price from 1/5 to 1/3 of those of the RE added ones are expected. Techniques of rod bending and strengthening of irregular-shaped magnesium alloys as plates were also developed, therefore, applications to various structural components should be quite easy.
