Abstract

This paper proposes a wideband high-gain beam-steering antenna composed of a feeding body of revolution (BOR) element and parasitic mushroom-shaped elements (MushPE) surrounding the feeding BOR element. The BOR element radiates an omnidirectional beam in the azimuth plane. This omnidirectional beam is transformed into a high-gain directional beam when some MushPEs are open-circuited with respect to the ground plane and the remaining MushPEs are short-circuited. It is found that a gain of more than 10 dBi and a VSWR of less than two are obtained across a 36% frequency bandwidth. Measurement using a fabricated antenna confirms the simulation results.
