<p>We reviewed essential symptoms of sematic dementia (SD), the selective impairment of semantic memory due to the anterior temporal lobe (ATL) atrophy, then reconsidered these by the hub- and- spoke hypothesis of semantic memory. Loss of conceptual diversity caused by the ATL damage in SD patients primary produces prominent semantic problems in verbal or visual materials. Moreover, it also tends to produce unexpected compulsive stereotypic behaviors to a varying degree.</p>
