Description

The aim of this paper is twofold. Firstly, a hypothesis is made as to why a live musical performance can present an opportunity for perceptible change in a child's musical expression. While it has been shown that the act of listening to live music can precipitate such changes, it is posited here that both the child's previous musical experience and visual characteristics of the live performance itself are determining factors in this process. Conclusions are drawn from a case study in which changes in the musical development of the author's child were observed over time. Secondly, implications of this study for nursery-school and kindergarten teachers who wish to facilitate their charges' musical growth are discussed.
