Abstract

Detecting driver drowsiness is an important issue in proactive safety. Driver drowsiness may be detected by physiological indices, driving performances, or facial expressions. However, most of these methods for detecting driver drowsiness tend to be less reliable. This paper proposes a driver assistance system with a dual control theoretic scheme, which tries to perform safety control of a vehicle as well as identification of the driver's cognitive state simultaneously.
