Description

A number of the adults of Cartodere australica BELON were found from the mouldy wooden palettes in a paper mill manufactory in Tokyo. The larval form and some bionomics of this species are given in this paper. The materials used for the present study were collected from the above factory. The mature larva of Cartodere australica is distinguishable from that of C. nodifer (WESTWOOD) by the follwing features : Setae of thoracic and abdominal terga are much shorter. Mandibular mola with two teeth on anterior portion and regularly arranged granules on ventral surface (the latter with three teeth and irregularly distributed granules which are smaller).
