Description
The present experiment was concerned with readability for numeral figures used as traffic sign. Its readability was determined by reading distance for two numerals 2 and 3, in out of doors. Under the conditions of various color combinations of a letter and its backboard, stroke width of the letter was varied. The results obtained are as follows. 1)There is an optimum stroke width to a fixed height of letter. 2) A maximum reading distance of the letter in high reflectance of figure on low reflectance of backboard occurs at smaller stroke width than in the reversal color combination. 3) Reading distance of various colored letters was strongly influenced by contrast ratio of letter to backboard.
