Description

The joint probability density function (JPDF) model of velocity-composition-turbulence frequency is applied to a scalar mixing layer with the one-step irreversible, second-order, moderately fast chemical reaction. The transport equation of the joint probability density function is modeled by the simplified Langevin Model (SLM), the stochastic model of turbulent frequency, and the simple interaction by exchange with the mean (IEM) mixing model. The chemistry mechanism for a moderately fast reaction is characterized by a mixture fraction and a reaction progress variable. The calculated results are compared with experimental data obtained by Bilger et al. and the computations of Hulek and Lindstedt using the joint velocity-composition PDF model based on a binomial Langevin model. Furthermore, in order to assess the effects of the mixing model on concentration statistics, the Euclidean minimum spanning tree (EMST) model, is also applied to the same scalar mixing layer. The predictions are compared for two different mixing models : the IEM mixing model, and the EMST mixing model.
