Description

Air conditioning systems of vehicles or cars used to do only cooling and heating inside vehicles. Recently it has become desirable to control air in a vehicle to maximize the comfort of people in a vehicle under all vehicle's environmental conditions. However, it is difficult to maintain an optimum comfort level under thermal disturbances such as thermal effects from sunlight and from opening and closing vehicle's doors. Also, it is desirable to control air by considering the different comfort temperatures for different body parts of a passenger. This paper proposes a new control method for distributed temperature control to achieve optimum air temperatures inside a car, considering the comfort of each passenger. The optimum HVAC control has been applied to an air conditioning system for a car, and a fuzzy controller is used to independently control temperatures at various locations inside a car, considering each passenger's comfort temperature level and air velocity at each seat. We have conducted experiments and the experimental result by our fuzzy control. Our experimental results have confirmed that our method is useful for distributed temperature control in a car.
