Description

Some of wood preservatives can be injurious also to man and domestic animals if misused or wrongly applied. It is important that all users of wood preservatives should maintain the highest standards of hygiene, and carefully observe any regulations concerning health and safty in their use. The acute toxicity of the technical compound and on its formulations was studied by using experimental animals. The acute oral and dermal toxicity to the mice were examined using- mainly wood preservatives. Five mice were used and the observation period were one week. General signs of all mice in each group were observed daily. The LD_<50> value was a statistical estimate by using Litchfield-Wileoxon's method of the number of mg of toxicant per Kg of body weight required to kill 50 % of a population of test mice. In practice, the majority of wood preservatives used in this experiments were placed in a class indicating a lower hazard.
