説明

A new gall midge causing conical galls on the leaves and new twigs of Celtis sinensis var. japonica and C. jessoensis in Japan is described as Celticecis japonica. Information is given on its host plant, gall, life history, parasitoids and geographical distribution. This gall midge is distinguishable from its relatives in North America by differences in the ovipositor and larval papillae. This species is univoltine, adults emerging in early spring from galls that fell to the ground the preceding year. At least 3 parasitoid species are associated with the gall midge, but 2 of them have not yet been identified.
