Description

Renin-producing ovarian epithelial carcinoma is extremely rare. Here we report a renin-producing ovarian epithelial carcinoma that was confirmed by irumunohistochemical staining. A 46-year-old woman suffered from severe headaches and saw a physician. Several examinations showed a high level of serum renin and a right ovarian tumor. The patient was then presented to our outpatient clinic for surgery operation. We performed an abdominal total hysterectomy, a bilateral salpingooophorectomy, a pelvic lymphadenectomy, a partial omentectomy and an appendectomy. To clarify whether or not this tumor produces renin, we applied an immunohistochemical technique with anti-renin an bodies. A surgical specimen of the ovarian cancer from the patient was stained irumunohistochemicallly by the avidin-biotin complex method. Specific immunostaining for renin was demonstrated in the ovarian cancer tissue specimeas. We believe that this is a rare case of ream-producing ovarian epithelial carcinoma.
