Description

The Kobiwako Group, which is distributed around Lake Biwa and in the Iga-Ueno and Shigaraki Areas (Fig. 1), is composed of clay, silt, sands and gravels of limnic and fluvial origin with more than 43 tuff beds. Many researchers have engaged in their stratigraphical surveys of the Kobiwako Group, but the correlation between the stratigraphy of the Kobiwako Group east of Lake Biwa and that west of Lake Biwa is not yet clarified. The knowledge hitherto obtained is summarized in the present paper and shown in the stratigraphical table (Table 1).
