Abstract

A commercial ant bait Maxforce Quantum^[○!R] absorbs water from atmosphere, and the weight increases almost five times by water. Thereby the active ingredient in bait must be diluted and the efficiency may possibly decrease at practical situations. In this study, the knockdown effect of fresh and swollen baits was examined in Petri-dishes against Lasius japonicus Santschi, and Formica japonica Motschulsky. The appearance of knockdown by swollen bait delayed, but the knockdown rate was almost identical to that of fresh one after 96 hours. These results suggest that Maxforce Quantum^[○!R] will provide fair performance against these ant species even under practical wet circumstances.
